Big Apple, Big Nickel - I Love Them!
|
I must admit I have been very lucky to travel the world all because someone finds me funny. I've been to some far off places like Hong Kong, Afghanistan, England as well as some not so far places Toronto, Ottawa, Los Angeles, San Antonio but there are two places other than Montreal that I have a desire to one day, hopefully spend many a day there. The two cities could not be more different in appearance, location and population - they are New York City and Sudbury. What? How do these two even get mentioned in the same sentence you ask? Are we playing a game of antonyms - nope, I shall explain. I will admit, Montreal will always be my home - I'm born here, live here and it is my home base when it comes to work. But its luster is wearing off - like the once bronze statues that this city has - the luster too has turned a wee bit green, even my love for my beloved hockey team has faded and I will put it in writing - I now cheer for the big bad BOSTON BRUINS. That's right the history of the Habs can't be matched but living in the present and not the past, I can't seem to root root root for the home team. So in usual me fashion, why not ruffle some feathers and choose our second biggest rival to cheer for (Toronto sorry just can't root for the Leafs - rather have a migraine for the next 50 years - I guess real Leaf fans already are suffering from that ailment) I was in NYC this past weekend and I forget just how dynamic the city is. No matter what time of day, no matter the day of the week, no matter the weather - there is a vibe in the Big Apple. It is so unique, I am yet to see it anywhere else in any other city that I have been to during my travels. The vibe, the people contrary to public opinion are some of the nicest around. It is so multicultural, like Montreal, the difference no one looks at you like you are a criminal if you choose to speak in the wrong language that they speak. The food delicious - especially Del Frisco's, and google the Stumble Inn and Fiddlestick's, simply put amazing. A city so vibrant even after everything they have been through, how could you not love it. But every now and then the big city boy needs to relax and get away. Hence Sudbury. Over the years I have made many good friends in the city with the world's biggest nickel (still want to create the world's largest vending machine so I could use that said nickel). Imagine a city boasting a population of maybe 100 000, but with all the amenities and services of a big city. Sure there are no broadway plays there, but there is the pace of being on vacation in the middle of a city, that also has great restaurants, bars and the people - nicest anywhere. So one day maybe, I can dream about living in the Big Apple and get away once a month to the Big Nickel - why not dream BIG I say. I like big things, I've been told I'm a big thing so naturally I'm biased. Go visit these cities, and Go Bruins Go! Keep laughing |
