I Can't Sleep and it isn't the Olympics
|
It is 3:53am as I sit and write this. I usually would be asleep however mother nature has decided to unleash some of her power on the city that I call home. After a day of snow, then rain, followed by a mix of snow and rain there are winds gusting up to 100 km/h. So needless to say the windows rattling, sounding like they might fly in have kept me up so I decided to share some random thoughts with y'all! It is day 14 of the Olympics and I must admit that when these games started I only cared about hockey - but national pride trumps boredom. Let's start with the popular sport of bobsleigh. Canada won two medals yesterday with the women winning gold and silver. Amazing yeah Canada - what amazed me the most isn't the speed in which they go down the icy track, or the grace - rather the size of these women's thighs holy crap - let's be honest NO means NO with these medal winners. They could crack marble with those things, the same could be said about the speed skaters. And when a race takes 11 minutes and is 24 laps around an oval is it really SPEED skating, I'll buy endurance skating but speed? Then there is figure skating, the boys argued over what really makes you a champion and who should be wearing what - what are cat fights called when it's men involved? Made it interesting. But the best story from these games is Canada's Joannie Rochette - whose mother passed away suddenly. Did she quit, which most of us probably would have chosen to do and understandably so. No this young lady skated to a bronze medal. Like the sport or not you would have to be Hitler not to have had a tear or more watching her accept that medal. Joannie you may have won the bronze but you are golden. That brings me to curling. I took curling as a "gym" class many moons ago in my brief post-high school education. Canada is in the men's and women's gold medal game. Hope they both win - that way I can brag to everyone that Canada is truly the champion of all sport on a sheet of ice. While we are on the topic Canadian skip Cheryl Bernard wants people to focus on her talents as a curler and not the fact that she is an attractive, fit woman. Cheryl lighten up things could be worse you could be the women's skip from Germany. I swear that woman is hung like a Bavarian moose. So embrace the fact that people like you and not staring at you because of your "package". In hockey the women have already won the gold and the conquest continues for the men tomorrow (today?!) Go Canada Go. Still can't sleep but they are repeating the alpine downhill races from earlier today - if that doesn't put me to sleep what will keep laughing, until next time |
