Happy New Year!
First and foremost I want to wish all of you a very happy, healthy and prosperous new year - may it be filled with only good things and laughter!
Thanks to everyone that came down to the Comedynest to ring in the new year with a great night of laughs, drinks, food and dancing. I couldn't think of a better way to ring in 2010 - David Pryde, Ali Hassan two of the funniest people around on the same bill. The great staff of the Nest, family, friends in the audience. If that's how the year started well it's off to a great start.
So where do I go from having said all that - why not a list, heaven knows there haven't been enough of them with the best of the year, best of the decade etc.
So here goes.
Just a few random thoughts that may or may not be related to the new year but I feel like sharing:
1. The Olympics! Enough already play the games, but a 24 hour webcam of the flame being run through Canada - I've seen this Country from the biggest cities to the smallest towns, there is no need to see all that let alone because some random person is holding a giant joint replica to represent "games" in which no doubt someone will get busted for steroids and be like "What I had no idea what was in that syringe" Shut up! Play the hockey tournament - Go Canada Go! But enough already. (Although seeing Shania Twain in a tight track suit makes you "get up" for the event!)
2. If there was ever a doubt Jon Stewart is a comedic genius - it was proven once again with his speech honoring Bruce Springsteen at the Kennedy Cnter Honors. All the right words at the right time with the precise inflection. One of this generations bests honoring one of the all time greats - awesome!
3. I love hockey and have been a die hard Canadiens fan my entire life. Yes they have been winning of late, and do I want to see them win the most gorgeous trophy in all organized sport, damn right I do, but... Hello Montreal sports fans - odds are it won't happen this year - so when I listen to the sports fans call into sports radio shows - if we hate Toronto fans so much, lets try and not sound too much like them. "Can't wait for the parade...." Hey, a few wins in a row does not make a championship team.
4. Lets all get behind the movement that between Nov.1 - 11, there should be no Christmas decorations in store windows. Why Scrooge? We should take that time to honor the men and women that are in the Armed Forces. November 11 is Remembrance Day - well let's REMEMBER all of the fallen heroes and their sacrifices in the week leading up to their day. They don't serve just one day - why honor them with just one day. 10 days with a big ceremony on the 11th - I do think they have earned it so let's give these brave soldiers past and present their proper dues!
5. Finally - health, happiness to you all - may 2010 be the year all your dreams come true. Hope to see you all at some point this year
Keep laughing
