That week in Toronto! And more
So after a few years hiatus of performing at a comedy club in Toronto - I returned to do just that this past week. I must admit I am not a fan of the Maple Leafs, Raptors or the Jays - so my dislike has spread towards the city itself. But I did discover something - if you know where to go and what to do, Toronto really isn't that bad.
My first stop the Hockey Hall of Fame - no matter what level of fan you are this place is amazing. What made it even more special was the main exhibit dedicated to the 100 years of the Montreal Canadiens - see in order to make Toronto better they brought in some Montreal flavor. Very cool exhibit filled with the neatest and rarest of artifacts from the most storied franchise in any sport - take that Yankees, whatever Man U! Add in a little Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux, a lucky loonie, the greatest championship cup ever and this is a must see for all. Which leads me to add one more thing concerning hockey and the Habs - who are these people that insist on making their 100 anniversary one filled with controversy. I say stop believing everything on these blogs, stuff that airs on a show that has a title of 110% or from journalists that question Saku Koivu's heart, or those who question the "American" owners and their true intentions. Remember when no local buyers stepped up to the plate those "Americans" brought winning and dignity back to Nos Amours Les Glorieux LES CANADIENS! Oh and one last thing, you will never find a classier person than Bob Gainey - he is in the hockey hall of fame and more importantly in my real life hall of fame.
So what can top a visit to the mecca of the greatest sport and great shows over at Absolute Comedy - well it could be the reunion of three friends that went to summer camp together - 20 years later it was the best lunch I have had yet (and as a big man I have had my fair share of lunches). Jordan Kay and Avi Behar - thanks for making me feel 17 years old again, and for giving me another reason to return to Toronto sooner than later. You are my friends forever and as promised we will not wait another twenty years.
Maybe I am mellowing with age, maybe I'm becoming more sentimental as I get up there in years - either way I think I'm starting to like Toronto. The city never the sport teams.
See you soon, keep laughing
