July - what a month and it isn't over yet!
So maybe these "climate change" people are on to something. The humidity has been non stop, tornadoes have hit Montreal and the surrounding areas a few times already - and now because of this I'm reading about more and more people preparing for dooms day - the apocolypse.
So maybe the Mayan calendar does end in the year 2012 - my theory they ran out of hot Mayan women for their pin up calendar.
Highlight number one of July - Kenstock. The town of Hudson, Quebec has always been one of my favorite places - the people are friendly, generous and really community oriented. Example when a long time member of the community falls ill, they all rally around him and his family and get a bunch of bands and comedians to perform at an outdoor fundraiser called Kenstock - incredible. Check out www.kensfriends.com for all the info and to make a donation. However leaving the gig - I encountered a small problem.
See here I am a Jew - riding in a german made car with a muslim and the car breaks down in the woods - seriously I think this is how Saw 7 starts. Ali Hassan's car runs into some mechanical problems - what happens? The kind people of Hudson stop to help us out, then when it becomes apparent that the car needs a tow, but the garage is closed because it's Sunday - a kind family allows us to park the car in their driveway while another gentleman lends us his car - a Jaguar no less. "Get home, call the garage tomorrow and call me when everything is worked out and we will arrange to get the car back" Where else does that happen now a days? Maybe it's the heat, makes'em crazy - no just really good people in Hudson like I always knew.
Then of course there was the Just For Laughs Festival. Once again the biggest names in the comedy world arrived in Montreal to perform. I was lucky enough to be on the gala hosted by Cheech and Chong - the set went well, and they could not have been nicer guys, maybe it's because I had food and they had the munchies, but seriously very laid back, down to earth people. Got to see some great shows too - Aziz Ansari, Orny Adams, Derek Edwards I can go on and on. If you want to know day by day details check out www.sheckymagazine.com
So much fun crammed into the first 2 and a half weeks of the month, lets hope the rest is as much fun, and as hot, sans humidity though - my hair is out of control
Keep laughing
