Tis the season!
So the holiday season is in full swing - only 10 more shopping days until Xmas, so I was told today while listening to the radio. I ask you, who isn't done their shopping by now - Xmas sales started the day after Halloween, surely a month and a half is enough time to get everything for your family, friends, boss, co-worker(s), neighbors and everyone else we feel obliged to bestow a gift upon because at some point during the year they were nice enough to say hi to you or wish you a happy birthday or "have a nice weekend". Yes I know I sound a little Bah-humbugish, Scrooge like if you will. I admit maybe I am a little bit not into the "season". It's not as easy as you would think to get into the festive spirit, with more people bumping into you at stores and malls and then looking at you for an apology. What's with the carols being played in all shops and malls at a decible level that was never attained at any Expo's games while they played in the Big O! Do I really have to hear Gordon Lightfoot sing "Little Drummer Boy" to the tune of the "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" followed by the Barenaked Ladies rendition of "White Christmas" - seeing how the lead singer was just busted for cocaine possesion - really "WHITE?" Christmas - was that the best choice of song - I would have maybe opted for Dreidel Dreidel myself.
It also seems everyone makes lists at this time of year - lists of who and what to buy, year end resolutions, best of lists. So here is a list of people that I admire and think the world would be a better place if there were more people like the ones that I am about to list. I will keep it to 5 people even though there are many more that I can and want to mention. My parents (they have put up with me for almost 37 years they deserve a medal and then some), Natalie Maines - speak the truth and now you get the last laugh. Bob Gainey - a class act one of a kind. All of you that have helped me these past two years in my fight against Diabetes - I thank you all for donating your time and money - we will win this fight and finally "Make Life Sweet!" Obama - no dream is to big or impossible, just believe in yourself and eventually the world will see the person not the color of your skin or your religion. Finally all the men and women that serve and have served in the Canadian military - true heroes all of you - get home safe so that we can go shopping together and enjoy a coffee in a mall's food court while listening to Anne Murray croon "Jingle Bells"
Have a safe and fun filled holiday all of you
Keep laughing!
