I Graduated and more!

So much has happened since my last entry - not an excuse but I have been busy. Where to start? Let's start with last night.
Dawson College - a local college here in Montreal held their graduation ceremony last night at the beautiful Place Des Arts. I was asked to give the commencement speech, and after accepting I thought what the hell did I just do. Well thankfully, in my usual fashion, totally unprepared except for a quote from Martin Luther King Jr written down, off I went. Told the graduates to follow their dreams at any cost, their parents might not like their choice but in the end if they are happy their parents will be too. The feedback from faculty, parents and the graduates was all very positive, thankfully. As a bonus they bestowed upon me a diploma, certifying that I completed my work. Finally a diploma for Joey, my family is happy, it may have taken 20+ years but I got one.
I have also been doing some extra shifts at the radio station - replacing the guy that is usually on between 7-10pm then staying around and doing my regular 11-midnight shift. I must admit, it is a lot more work than I thought but it is lots of fun. I thought the callers at 11pm were crazy, wow I guess the meds knock some of these goofy folk out cold. If you are one of them and are reading this, don't call or email, go take a pill and a nap - we all enjoy the silence.
Finally, on a more sombre note. Irwin Barker - a great comedian and writer, but more importantly a great person lost his battle with cancer earlier this week. If you never got a chance to see Irwin work, there are no words to describe what you missed. Given a year to live three years ago, Irwin fought and continued to work all the while raising awarness and money for the battle against this horrible diesease. Irwin is in a class by himself, a true gentleman. In this industry their are many egos that sometimes clash, but you would never find anyone that didn't love and respect Irwin. Thank you Irwin for all the memories and laughs. RIP. |
