The "Spaceman"

It sounds like the beginning of a bad joke; an ex-baseball player, an ex-hockey player, a comedian and a contest winner walk onto a golf course. In reality it was one of the greatest days that I have had in a long time, possibly top 10 ever. I played in the Paramount Financial golf tournament benefitting the Mackay Center, here in Montreal. The foursome started out as ex-NHLer and now Team 990 on air personality PJ Stock, ex-Red sox and Expos pitcher Bill "The Spaceman" Lee and myself. The foursome was completed by a gentleman named Mark - who bid over $1200 to golf with us while donating money to a very worthy cause. What a day! Mark, what a great guy, funny, easy going and hits a 2 iron a good distance. PJ; had the pleasure of riding in the cart with him all day, got a little tired of the knock knock joke, but great guy, big heart. Then there is "The Spaceman". I remember him from his days with the Expos, and remember him as a free spirit, well... he came as advertised. Great story teller, knows every type of tree known to man and possibly the best dressed golfer ever!! (wore a red t-shirt to match his white shorts with red crabs on them.) Best line of the day goes to Mr. Lee. Mark, hit his ball well right and Mr. Lee yells, "Thurmon Munson." We all look and wonder if this is some type of flashback, but he then finishes his thought by saying "That's a dead Yank!" Not very PC but funny. Thank you Bill, PJ and Mark for making the day a great one. Thank you Lorne Rubin of Paramount Financial for hosting an amazing tournament. And thank you golf gods for not allowing me to embarrass myself in front of the masses,
