3 Great Days, 3 Great Charities
I must tell you I enjoy the late spring, early summer. The weather is nicer, the humidex isn't really a factor yet. (As I write this the forecast is for 38C tomorrow with the humidex). But really there is so much going on. Festivals, patio activity, golf (Geoff Ogilvie? C'mon) and more importantly golf tournaments and other charity events. In the past week I have been lucky enough to have participated in 3 of these events.
The first one was very cool. Headed up by Claudine Cook, there was a softball game at Jarry Park, the Expos old home, benifitting ALS - Lou Gehrig's Diesease. It was Montreal celebrities and media personalities playing with and against old Expos. Andre Dawson,Warren Cromartie, Steve Rogers, Denis Boucher to name a few. Also Montreal Canadiens new head coach Guy Carbonneau, Vincent Damphousse, Olympian Bruny Surin, Rosey Edah, and World champion boxer Otis Grant were all in attendance. I played catcher which was so cool, because I got to interact with everyone. What a great day, what a great cause. And not to make this public but Q92 morning man Aaron Rand did strikeout the mighty Dawson.
The second event was the Robert Strauber Memorial Golf Tournament at Pinegrove Golf and Country Club. This year the money raised went to the Starlight Foundation. Run by some of the most incredible people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing, this tournament gets better and better every year. The weather was perfect, the prizes were incredible, and kids can now be granted their wish. Thanks to Joel G., Lorne R and Howard W, the other members of my foursome that day that made it that much better.
And finally another golf tournament this past Saturday at Dorval Golf Course, benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Wow, what a day, so many golfers, so many volunteers - great time great cause check it out at www.cfcigolf.org The Team 990 auctioned off a chance to golf with Elliot Price and Shaun Starr of the morning crew, and me. Thanks to Paul who admitted never being a golfer but paid to "hang out with us" because the money went to a charity. Paul, you are a gentleman thanks for a great day.
Sometimes, it takes days like these to remind me how blessed I really am. I have a fantastic family, great friends, a job I still love after all these years and my health. Help out a charity or charities if you can.
Sorry to get a little more serious than usual, but it had to be said
Keep laughing!
