Montreal vs. Toronto
|
As many of you know, I am a big hockey fan. So this past weekend was a treat for me in many ways. I was headlining the Comedyworks in Montreal, the Habs played the Leafs twice in three days, the Habs crushed the Leafs twice in three days. The shows Friday night were filled with Leaf fans, who for some reason felt they needed to laugh, when really to see true comedy all they have to do is watch their team play on any given night, and the laughs would fill the air. What truly amazes me is the dedication of these Leaf fans. They truly believe that their beloved team still has a chance of winning "the tin". I can't help but think that these people are unaware of the way the seasons are different in the Leaf nation. I'll explain everywhere else spring is about re-birth, however in spring it is also the season where the Leafs fall. The last time the Leafs won the Cup was 1967. 1967, the year Montreal hosted the world for EXPO. So once again Montreal upstaged Toronto, they may have gotten the cup, but no one noticed because the world was in Montreal having fun. 1967, Neil Armstrong was yet to walk on the moon, the Beatles were still together, I was 4 years away from being born, my parents weren't even married yet. 1967 was Eddie Belfour in his rookie year?
All I want to really say is thank you Leaf fans for making my job easy, as long as you believe, I'll continue with the jokes. But don't worry one day the cup will be at the ACC (aka Jurassic Park), sadly it won't be because the Leafs won it, it'll be because the NHL draft will be held there and they always bring all the trophies for the fans to see.
It's spring, the Leafs are falling, and I feel reborn.
